Job shadowing is when you spend a period of time at a host school in another country with the aim of learning about their practices through observation and interaction with staff members in their daily work.
To help you implement your job shadowing mobility, English Matters will make available its extensive network of schools across Europe. You will be part of a group of participants from different countries in a job shadowing experience in one host school. This will promote a European dimension and foster professional dialogue. The group will be organised according to the structure of the education system in the host country and the types of schools offered for job shadowing. Therefore, when applying for this programme, you should choose the educational level that best suits your professional profile and select one period of the dates available.
English Matters' extensive knowledge of education systems and institutions across Europe will help you navigate your job shadowing experience and immerse yourself in everyday school life. You'll learn about teaching strategies, organisation of school and leadership while interacting with teachers, educators, and school leaders in a variety of learning environments.
You can choose either a 3-day Job Shadowing programme (which will maximise your budget and time) or an extended 5-day experience including our “Contexts4Content” field learning approach for exploring the host country’s culture, history, and geography, as a basis for developing teaching materials to help your students understand Europe’s sociocultural richness. This will provide you a deeper understanding of the context and a more holistic experience.
Beyond classroom and school life observation, this program encourages meaningful dialogue, reflection, and professional exchange. You will also have the opportunity to forge international connections, broaden your cultural horizons, and return home motivated, enriched, and with new ideas.
