English & Culture: An Irish Cultural Framework for Teachers of English

Description

Location: Dublin, Ireland

This course is designed for teachers of English as a Foreign Language working in secondary education who wish to enrich their teaching with an Irish cultural framework. Participants will explore a landscape of Irish literature, art, music, film and society, through a variety of approaches and training strategies (e.g., workshops, seminars, group discussion, field learning projects' Contexts4Content', etc). This will foster communication and reflection on first-hand learning experience of Irish culture through hands-on activities that will result in a deeper understanding of Ireland, the Irish and the depth of their cultural heritage.

Inspired by Dublin, UNESCO City of Literature, and embraced by Ireland, birthplace of four Nobel Prize winners for Literature (Shaw, Yeats, Beckett and Heaney), participants will delve into the worldview of the Irish people represented by their cultural exponents. We invite you to open your senses to the sights, smells and sounds of the environment and share your learning using your communication skills in English.

Participants should be teachers of English as a Foreign Language working in secondary education with a minimum level of English corresponding to C1 or C2 in the Common European Framework (CEFR).
